(You don't have to believe that you're obligated to give all your creative product away, though the hackers that do are the ones that get most respect from other hackers. It's consistent with hacker values to sell enough of it to keep you in food and rent and computers. It's fine to use your hacking skills to support a family or even get rich, as long as you don't forget your loyalty to your art and your fellow hackers while doing it.)

"No. Hackers aren't, contrary to media reporting, the people who break into computers. Those are crackers. Hackers are people who enjoy playing with computers. Your hacker may occasionally circumvent security measures, but this is not malicious; she just does it when the security is in her way, or because she's curious.
        "

Umm.. Accually a "cracker" is someone who takes fullversion software and cracks it so you dont need to use the serial number or creates a "crack" that will bi-pass it.. and a hacker is someone who "hacks" into protected areas which they are not permitted...

you can actually view it from 2 sides:

hackers - geeks that break into sites and other shit for fun
crackers - geeks that break into sites for "profit" (not always money, respect also)

                also:

hackers - geeks that break into sites for profit
crackers - geeks that "crack" software for respect

and yea, it's all about respect. that's why hackers/crackers always leave their names on something they hacked/cracked.
