    Google Adwords Tips

I've just started playing with adwords, does anyone have any tips they might share with a noob?

Their system seems very complex at first glance, but i can see how it works, and can also see that there should be some key strategies to maximising ROI.

I've created a single campaign to start me off, with a max budget set to the max i can get at the moment.

Within that campaign, i've got about 5 different ads, targeted specifically at certain keywords.

I've got 1 generic one, that targets "widgets", and the others are sub niches "red widgets", each one with different targeted ads.

    any tips?

i can certainly see it being an art.

I know its going to depend on the keywords/niche, but what type of pages do you send the clicks to?

Do you have ICQ? I should be able to help you with something.

Its actually counter-intuitive, i,e., you almost want to discourage surfers from clicking on your ad.

Since you pay per click, you want to try to filter out window browsers.

Other tip is, depending on your keywords you'd probably have to plunk down a few grand a month. So, assuming you are budgeting clicks, it makes no sense to go for #1; much better to lower your bid and get more CTR as #3 or #4.

I am doing pretty well with Google Adwords right off the bat. The key is to send the traffic to a sellable site.

What other PPC SE's are as good as Google Adwords?

I had to lower my daily budget to $1 a day for each campaign, because the charges were killing my credit card. But it gets me on average 1.8 placement. So I'm happy

But yeah, I have a q, too. How do you tell what clicks incoming are from your google campaigns? Or is there a way? And how do you then tell if those convert?

To tell how your Google ads convert you need to send the traffic through some tracking code from Google ad to the sale. It' s the only way to tell for sure.

I always see that ppl give out that advice when someone asks or PPC help.
For me that's obvious and anyone who can not realise that by himself, is totally stupid.

Always put the price in the text. The surfer looking for free pictures you most definitly dont want, so like someone said earlier, discourage them from clicking the link unless they are prepared to pay.

                                    thanks for the pointers.

I've got a piece of advice for people new to adwords - dont set your daily budget to £50 (the maximum before they charge on a new account) thinking you will max out the £50 and then have the campaigns stopped, because it will then keep sending you traffic and automatically bill your card.

I just bought 1000 clicks of the search result for "porn" @ 32c/click. Whoops

With a few factors going in my favour, i would have broken even.

Needless to say, i made a loss on this 32c/click campaign, but i can deffo see the potential quality of this traffic.

                                          $320 spent, probably $180 loss

You actually want to pull *down* your maximum cost per day until you see how it's converting and get it tweaked to maximize the clicks. (Both the ad and the landing page.)
Then open up the maximum cost per day.
