For adult production ffmpeg is one of those boring tools that quietly runs half the business. Transcoding previews, cutting teasers, normalizing audio, making thumbnails, checking duration/codec before delivery - it saves a lot of manual pain when you handle content every day.

Also the ffmpeg X account is a mouthy shit who doesn't know what he's talking about at all and using the project itself's status to bolster his engagements. He's been shut down by many more skilled than him multiple times and his only retort is the same played out "talk is cheap, send patches" but of course the tard yard eats it up.

He gets intro tech, he is a techie. That does not indicate any level of actual proficiency, it just indicates what he likes.

I am not a techie. I have been programming and doing development going on 40 some years and I am quite proficient in the languages/platforms I work with, but I am not a techie. For me, it is something that I tend to be good at and I can earn a living wage at but I do not eat/breath/sleep tech, I hardly speak techie, lol.

So, as I said, it is not an either/or.

FFMPEG is a tool that lets you automate everything in batches instead of wasting hours with Arles Web Page Creator, Photoshop, watermarking, cropping, and all the other prehistoric click-click-click nonsense. Basically, it saves you a lot of time, money, etc
And now, back to our regular programming, where AI programmers proudly explain to the world the things most of us real geeks learned 25 years ago and almost forgot because we are in our old age

In old time yes, now :

While "webmaster" was common in the early days of the internet to describe a single person running a site, modern web teams often divide these duties among specialized roles like Front-End Developers, Back-End Developers, UX Designers, or Content Managers.
Webmasters approve website content for publication, such as blogs, video content, photos, articles and embedded digital resources. They also oversee the production process and ensure publishers meet deadlines and create quality content.
Anyway, there is NO argument here. Definitions and jobs change with time, and yes, I run a website, but my job is more of the 2nd quote... I administer and delegate..... based on the following :"Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's....."

thank you, sarettah. i really don't understand what the negativity is for or what does this have to do with my skillset (which i am happy to discuss if anyone's interested. while my codebases are private, my projects are not exactly a secret - i even built a portfolio and posted it on gfy recently). again, this thread really was about sharing my excitement. i woke up, saw spotify notification of 4 hour long lex fridman ffmpeg episode and i was like hell yeah, and i sent the link to a few people on telegram and posted this thread. i really am that simple.

people coming in saying things like they know how to run a python script and knowing the difference between python and shell scripts... what the fuck is wrong with you?

PS. i may have worded part of the opening post wrongly. i may have assumed that ffmpeg is more mainstream than it actually is. i did not mean to put anyone down or brag... and brag about what anyway, me staring at computer screen all day every day?

i've said this before and i'll say it again: i am not interested in keyboard wars, i've just turned 40 years old :/ the thread got derailed by idiots, farang is out.

I think he’s got a point there, kid. Most of us professionals have used the tool for years. I can write a script that would ‘cut the watermark, re-encode the video, tilt it 9 degrees south, delay the audio by 1%, and layer another watermark’ .. and yes, it would pass any validation. I can kick it off with a " python3 do_shit.py" command and sit back and watch while it makes the money. Listening to you is like listening to a 101-level student lecture the teacher on how to write a ‘Hello world’ script, then add, ‘I can do it better.’ … No hard feelings, but take a fucking chill pill, junior. Really working the room with that confidence

ffmpeg is an amazing project, and lex fridman mentions it often during interviews so the fact that he finally got people from ffmpeg (and vlc) for an interview is very exciting. ffmpeg also runs one of the best x.com accounts ever. this thread has no other motive than to share excitement. i do not need clients, i have clients.

it takes a clueless cunt like mahadeva to try to turn something beautiful into something ugly
