Basically their grand strategy is probably based on the number of weapons/population of their country.
They probably bet that our population dont wish so much to fight, besides by proxy and that overall the countries that are ready to fight with china or Russia are more populated.

I have a book written by an Iraqi General who explains what happened in the Second Iraq war. On the very first day, the very first strike, we took out their entire communications network for the entire country. We can plunge them into the dark ages instantly and they cannot possibly strike back.

The United States doesn't want to get dragged into a war in the Middle East but... If it happens, it seems the country pulling all of the strings is Iran. Not much different than Iraq.
