when tech co 'innovations' lose the plot

looked and I don't see anything about this here...any of y'all use skype and are massively annoyed by this new 'open chat in same tab' ish?

I find it so irksome, and it makes skype much less easier to use.

been handling it regarding clients (have accidentally closed skype more than once though) but this am was doing a vid call with my mom. I talk to her either there or on whatsapp but we both prefer skype for vid calls, and I use my cam account, she knows what I do online and no fucks given

so yeah...talking to her this am as she preps to visit me for a week stay next week, (I am insanely excited) and a client messages me. I see the little pop-up push notification in the corner

ok, cool, awesome, just one sec momsie

normally I'd just excuse myself for a moment to check it and carry on with my mom and let the dude know I'm available but need a few mins, via text reply in a new window

but now, going back to the main contact/chat list to view his full message ended the fucking call

how exactly is this an improvement and what are the skype people hoping to accomplish?

I have too many clients there to ditch the platform so I'm kinda stuck with it. just irritating as fuck

any y'all feel that sometimes co's make changes just to say "hey we're still totally cutting edge and on the ball"?

    please

microsoft made me accidentally hang up on my mom. pox on their houses

anyone have a work-around for this crap?

peace and love and belated happy May Day

see that all the time, somebody justifying their existence by solving problems that don't exist.

chrome settings are a good example. things change for the worse all the time. they have something that works great and then they have to go tweak it until it is unusable.

but it keeps the incompetent employed so there is that.

I don't use Skype but I am now massively annoyed by it on your behalf.

I don't think I've ever seen an update in my life where I've thought well that's an improvement, glad I did that. A bit like how 'new and improved recipe' always means 'this food you once loved is now dogshit'.

Actually I think the only reason I do updates is to get rid of update notifications, and even then, say with the likes of of Whatsapp, sometimes only when it's literally disabled and I can't just click 'Later' any more.

microsoft made me accidentally hang up on my mom.
This is why everyone hates Bill Gates.

Happy Belated Communism Day to you and your mom!

for real, I'm convinced most is busy work to say "hey, we're still here"

instead why not just go pet kittens and tell Bill Gates that you worked really fucking hard today

glad you posted, S already knows I adore him but you don't know I so enjoy your posts

you mix funny as fuck and intelligent and do that whole acerbic wit thing really well. what you write is fun to read

beyond that I appreciate your solidarity. me and my mom were able, through much struggle and perseverance, to pick up where we left off (power to the people )

then I went to see my client but holy fuck skype thinks we're so ADHD we're not capable of having two chat windows open at the same time?

would imagine peeps with actual ADHD are like, "whoa, don't put this on us"

who thought this was a good idea and have they ever used skype?

S nailed it, it just gives them something to do

but yeah, these people have no vision. like if you're gonna fuck shit up there is always a dance floor, or start a revolution or something. tell the higher-ups you're working on a 'disruptive' vision

on a serious note though, anyone find any work-arounds for this? it's really annoying me

I am using web.skype.com which is like old version of skype which never updates so you might try that.

ha, it works! for now at least, until the elves get busy mucking that up as well

some of these system engineers or whatever they are called remind me of a couple of peeps I've known over the years who decided to dye their hair jet black

thought process: it seemed like a really good idea at the time plus I had an hour to kill so...YOLO

no one with two working brain cells who has ever used skype in a practical capacity would have have envisioned let alone implemented this

for real though, super helpful. thank you

Wow, really? Okay, don't be alarmed, a psychiatrist is on the way.

(Or 'en route' as TV scriptwriters love to say, despite American actors being unable to pronounce it. Have you ever in your life said to someone, "I'm en route"? Has anyone? "Oh, there's a party? I'm en route right now!")

Anyway, enough of my forthcoming Live At The Comedy Store gig (tickets still available), credit where it's due, the hilarity tends to write itself here, or rather people often provide it unintentionally.

I'm glad at least some of what I post is fun to at least one person though (me), especially someone I like and respect (yes, same joke, me), because it must be annoying for some people (I mean, yeah, me again; I have to hear this shit in my head every fucking day).

I love reading your posts, which is not just repeating the compliment; I almost said so in my previous reply, but I always write too much (hi!), so tried to stick to just raging about updates, a particular pet peeve of mine.

Since you often write stuff I think/agree with anyway, and/or saves me the trouble of posting myself, it's not hard to appreciate a fellow genius at work. ;)

beyond that I appreciate your solidarity. me and my mom were able, through much struggle and perseverance, to pick up where we left off (power to the people )
Right on! You have nothing to lose but your cha- uh, chat connection when someone wants some hanky spanky? (K Marx, from 'Lesser Known Writings', 1882)

then I went to see my client but holy fuck skype thinks we're so ADHD we're not capable of having two chat windows open at the same time?

would imagine peeps with actual ADHD are like, "whoa, don't put this- oooh look, a squirrel"
                FTFY

who thought this was a good idea and have they ever used skype?

S nailed it, it just gives them something to do
Maybe they're ex-Apple, where loss of functionality is the accepted price of simple^H^H^H^H^H^H a cool glowing logo.

As opposed to traditional Microsoft philosophy: lack of functionality with no obvious advantage.

That Skype still works as well as it does is a testament to it not being developed by/at Microsoft, but since innovatively gobbling it up ten years ago, they've gradually transplanted it to their own infrastructure and dogma, so expect further 'corrections' to occur.

but yeah, these people have no vision. like if you're gonna fuck shit up there is always a dance floor, or start a revolution or something. tell the higher-ups you're working on a 'disruptive' vision
Exactly. Fucking shit up is great, with a proud history, and here they are wasting it on 21st century phone pranks. (Though I'd probably excuse them if it was that, and not just ineptitude.)

on a serious note though, anyone find any work-arounds for this? it's really annoying me
I love the idea (100% fact) that your workaround only works because it's some forgotten/ignored corner of Microsoft that never receives updates. TL;DR for tech innovation, right there.

Sorry to digress but "May Day" is an anarchist day. Us anarchists despise communists . . . they're too uptight about everything.

Move this post to the proper section of the board if you will.

This can't be serious and sounds like something. Not Life of Brian, but what...
