Dale Carnegie (1888-1955) was an American writer and lecturer best known for his self-improvement books, including "How to Win Friends and Influence People," which has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. Carnegie was born in Maryville, Missouri, and grew up in poverty. He attended college at Warrensburg State Teachers College (now University of Central Missouri) and later worked as a salesman and actor. In the early 1920s, Carnegie began teaching public speaking and self-improvement courses.
