Hi, Quick question. Should you edit a video first then resize or resize it first and then edit the video?

I always edit it in its purest form - Whatever size and format is was recorded in, (4K 60FPS) then export a full quality version. Then, with my editing program still open, I export various versions of same video - 1080p, 720p or whatever format I need .mov / .mp4 / .mpg / .avi (etc)
I edit with Davinci Resolve - Professional Quality - &... Completely Free

absolutely. Edit in the recorded form and then resize and it doesn´t matter the program, even windows movie maker edits and creates to what site you want...I always edit it in its purest form - Whatever size and format is was recorded in, (4K 60FPS) then export a full quality version. yea anybody who's gone thru the nightmare of re-exporting their library in a new form as tech changes will tell you keep a highest rez copy of the edited version.I always edit it in its purest form - Whatever size and format is was recorded in, (4K 60FPS) then export a full quality version. i remember when site owners thought real media was a good idea
one of my site owners still uploads in wmv lol. we can handle any source format. its ffmpeg to the rescue..

That is my problem. I am working with old Final Cut Pro, BUT !!!! it has fabulous sound studio program Sound Track Pro ... same platform and very compatible ( has free music clips, 1000's of sound effects, mixing etc etc...) . The newer versions of Final Cut went fully Youtube ( = crap).
Anyone knows if these Davincis, Black Magics or others have a compatible sound studio? After all, sound is the "other half" of any media....Comment

Thanks for posting the clip. It is much appreciated. BTW: The guy is the worst teacher I have ever seen, talks too fast, assumes the viewer knows everything and just rambles on.
Now, ( maybe I have missed it) but is there a limit on number of tracks ? We usually work with up to 15 to 20 stereo tracks ( the clip shown two) and then we mix them down to one stereo track. We can mix, as the show runs, here the guy moves sound level up or down for the whole track. That is not mixing...... Anyway, this will not work for us, but since we are on an Adult Forum do you know of " royalty free" ( or reasonably priced) music which allows adult ???Comment

I didn't really post that vid as a recommendation of that particular video, just to show you that Davinci Resolve does have this feature. I dont use it myself (Sound Library) so I cant answer about number of tracks, but if you search "DaVinci Resolve Sound Library" on YouTube, you'll find a raft of videos like that. Hopefully one will prove to be useful to you. Thanks for posting the clip. It is much appreciated. The audio section of Davinci is called Fairlight - More info HERE
Because DaVinci Resolve is a FREE professional product, there are always a load of articles and videos about each feature - Its Clickable Content - So search using 'Fairlight' as that's the name of the program that you would be using as part of DaVinci Resolve - Its good for mac, PC or linux - Give it a download and have a play !

Good point - S.I.S.O. (Shit In Shit Out) What sort of camera are you using to create the original footage? Perhaps the problem is with the camera?
Not trying to say you are using a shit camera... Just that its possible a setting on the camera has been changed by accident, and while its not immediately apparent when using the camera, it is causing a degraded quality for your edit?Comment

Resolve (Fairlight) can manage up to 2000 tracks with realtime effects (with hardware addon) and 1000 without. Thanks for posting the clip. It is much appreciated. BTW: The guy is the worst teacher I have ever seen, talks too fast, assumes the viewer knows everything and just rambles on.

In my opinion, it depends. If you have 4K footage that is just ok-quality and you intend to render it in lower resolution, then converting it to lower resolution first will making editing alot easier and speed up your workflow. This isn't advisable to everyone or every situation of course, but unless your original content is prestine, why not save some time?Comment

As mentioned previously, always use the raw file. Most editing programs will build a proxy so you are actually working with a smaller file that’s superimposed on the raw. When rendering, however, it’s pulling from the raw into your desired format. Once you get your 1920x1080 or 4k for that matter, you can use the larger file to render to diminutive formats, but even then, it’s always best to render down from the raw edited file.
Are you having any issues with speed or choppyness? This is where it can get kind of pricey. F.e., dump the files to mirrored drives, transfer to your render drives, 2 ssd in raid 0. Make sure you have lots of memory and solid cpu and gpu.
That’s all I got for you rn, and ohh, you don’t need a mac. Don’t get sucked into that grift.Comment
