    Tech Your favorite Linux system?

    and why.....

I have been using Linux Mint Cinnamon for the past 5 years or so. Good system, easy to use and configure. However I noticed in the new version 20.+ some things have changed and the server seems to process things differently.

One thing I have noticed, and maybe someone here might know why.... the hash's are not processing properly. They seem to change mid-process giving a false result. I have also noticed that some css is not being processed properly as well. I have been trying since the new version was released.

I can keep using 19.3 and will more than likely on my main, but looking to try something different on my laptop.

I have used openSuse and Ubuntu, there are things I like about each, Mint seems to combine the best of both, at least for me.

So.... what is your favorite Linux system and why do you like it best?

I was thinking 20.3 for the laptop and either see if I can find a work around for my issues or wait for an update. It's not a production machine so I can be flexible.

Well , it depending what kind of laptop - if older , then older ver is better if newer then you must have new version due drivers.

I stick with Debian-based because I like apt. Mint on the desktop, Ubuntu on the laptop, Debian on the servers.

Ubuntu default gui is strange with their reversed window buttons. Got used to mint and there was no point to bother with anything else. And when it comes to servers, since centos went to bananas you cant use anything else but debian anyway.

I'm currently battling with their oversized window handles, pisses me off because laptop screen real estate is valuable. Trying to decide which window manager to switch to, but I don't really feel like fucking around with that stuff like I did 20 years ago.

Well, for me cinnamon and xfce are good. KDE, not so much , it is like bloatware.

I did like the customization of KDE but only used it with OpsnSuse, I have not tried the Mint version.

I ended up putting Mint Cinnamon 19.3 back in. It's very stable and dependable. I installed 20.2 or 3 and not sure what happened but when I rebooted, I had no OS. Kooky.

One issue I am facing and not sure why I cannot get around this. Either OpenSuse or windows use to be more compatible with each other than systems today. Using Mint Cinnamon... I can get my windows machine into linux to share files however I cannot get linux to get into windows. It shows the windows network but I get this error:

"Unable to mount location" - Failed to retrieve share list from server. Connection timed out".

Firewall maybe? But where if so?

Again, from windows, I can connect to any of my linux systems.
