Did anyone else read about the botnet exposed? The Russian in charge didn’t pay for his API key renewal and got locked out?! Only 20,000 bots but good information on what they looked for and the vulnerabilities there are or were there

I didn’t see any attempts at that exploit, just the login attempts.

I think they need to teach people how to tighten up the open ports

Botnet attack cripples Wordpress sites. Earlier I had a minute to post and couldn’t grab the link.

Pretty sad how gullible people are when falling for these. In my past I was on the other side, finding them and helping shutting them down. Newbies here need to learn about knowledgeable hosts, open ports, how to detect open ports and how to avoid exploits. Oh, and update your software and plugins when prompted to do so.

I know the instructions say so, but too many skip all the reading and miss important things.

Mostly these exploits happen via brute force logins on insecure Wordpress installations. Every one of them happens over port 80 (you know that port for websites) so blocking port 80 would simply make your website inaccessible.

The prevention measures are simple, run up to date code (Wordpress & Plugins) and use strong passwords. You don't need to worry about blocking ports.

I fully bought into her situation and for a long time there I was offering help when I could and being as gentle as I could.

Doesn't matter, I apparently ended up on her ignore list because I called her out on her signature, which was quite offensive.

The fact that she went through (and continues to go through bad times) does not give her permission to be an outright bitch. It also does not forgive her lack of gratitude for the help that people have gone out of their way to give her.

Mental illness is very rough, maybe even worse than physical illness. People can't see so they don't understand. Reading her posts, clearly something is not quite right. It's good to take a step back, recognize something isn't right and move on.
