    Advice on server/hosting

    Hi gfy,

Right now I'm in a situation where I don't know what to do. I'm on a shared hosting (hostgator) and recently built and bought a few sites and it looks like may I need to upgrade, but I'm not sure. So I run a few wordpress sites on the shared server.
The traffic is very low, but my host disabled http access today. (high cpu load)

    1 custom blog 3-500UV/~800 page views/Day
    3 picture blog 600UV/~2-3000 page views/Day
    4 tubes (embed content) 100UV/~300 page views/Day

My Question is: do I need to move to a dedicated server with this setup? Or was this because of badly optimized plugins, sites? I asked for re-activation and the sites are now live, but I disabled some plugins, wp-cron on all sites.
Is there a traffic limit where dedicated servers is a must?
These sites doesn't generate enough revenue to pay for an $150 server/month.
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

It's hard to say exactly what your issues are but they are likely due to issues with themes and plug-ins. You may have a exploited site as well, running nasty things in the background which could kill your CPU resources.

You don't need a dedicated server but I would recommend a VPS for that set up. You will get better performance overall which will help boost your Google rankings which will boost your traffic which will boost your revenue.

We have a very nice SSD VPS available right now for $50 monthly. Feel free to email [email protected] and we will get you rolling ASAP.

I think a VPS is a great idea with Vacares. I did that myself and then moved to a dedicated smoothly with them after my site grew.

I'm now running sites that do 12k a day in traffic, no lag .

I have similar websites as you too!

Eventually cheaper hosts, shared hosts, MAY give you a warning if you drain the resources of the shared server, so VPS is generally the next step.

The other question is are your sites new? Are you struggling to generate revenue? Lots of things to think about.

One reason that pushed me to get my first and second server from Vacares was to think into the future. Knowing I had a server capable of a busy site, I was doing everything I could to make use of my bandwidth and available storage space on the server so I didn't feel like it was a useless expense. It actually motivated me to work harder .

Good luck. I suggested Vacares, but feel free to do your own research on GFY.

I would stay far away from any EIG hosting site. Here is the huge list of all the EIG owned brands:

Decent shared hosting plan should be able to handle that traffic, maybe Hostgator limits you too much, or you just use some poorly coded themes/plugins. If you plan to grow, just upgrade to VPS instead of looking for new shared hosting.
