    https - How to?

I've never set https before so I would need some help. I want to install https on a site currently hosted at HostGator

Were should I get a certificate?
I understand we can get these for free?
Can I provide phoney info ?
Does the info I provide is visible to all?

    thanks!

It's been a long time since I used HostGator so I don't know exactly how they work, but about a year ago I contacted my host and they were able to get it set up for me. I had to buy the cert and fix a few things on a few sites to get them to work properly, but it was pretty quick and painless.

I would suggest you go that way.

As for providing fake info, I'm not sure. I used my real info so I'm not sure if that will work.

While contacting the host, also check the registrar you used for you domain(s), most of them offer certs as well.

You can do these for free now using Let's Encrypt. So long as you don't have special needs, that should be fine for you.

      https://letsencrypt.org/

In your case, I recommend contacting HG first and see if they can automatically set up the certificate for you. If not, they will likely provide you with details on setting up certificates within their wheelhouse.

Thanks! I will give this a try. I see Gator charges a one time fee of $10 to install a third- party certificate.

I used following tutorial to make it work:
                https://www.tecmint.com/setup-https-...inx-on-centos/
However, name.com gives free SSL with domain whois, and since whois there is free, i tested and it's a little bit better then let's encypt, so i will use that in future instead let's encypt.

Contact your hosting provider, tell them to set it up for you.

before using a free cert make sure its accepted by all browsers and versions. I got mine at godaddy, they are reasonable and quick. also depends on the type of cert you want, like all mine are standard SSL's except the payment gateway page, it's a Extended Validation SSL Certificate, this is the one that turns your address bar green and not just the padlock. gives customers piece of mind when they can clearly see it.
