    New Windows Media problem

All of a sudden when I try to play movies, I get this error:

Windows Media Player cannot play this file. Connect to the Internet or insert the removable media on which the file is located, and then try to play the file again.

Anyone know what the deal is?

I think that's for XP only, alittle different for 98. Any ideas? I'm searching.

The file associations are ass-backwards. You must open program access and defaults and change/reset the associations. You could also right-click the file and select "always open with..."

Given, this is remote advice from some asshole who is possibly thousands of miles away. Good Luck and try deja.com.

i amanged to fix my problem searched on google groups.

none of the shit people said worked lol.. what i ended up doing since WMP was set to the file types i went into windows explorer and went to options and file types.. removed or restored (thats as feature for some) and then went back into WMP and made sure it was selected for the types and now it works.. kinda slow for mpgs still but they eventually come up .. i don't think they are streaming tho
