I upgraded my processor to a amd 2400 xp , amd told me to set my bios cpu speed to 2000 mhz. Its worked for a couple of weeks fine but tonight I restarted my computer and the mother board told me start up failed cpu over clocked. I set it at 1500 mhz ,now its fine what would cause that to happen? Also that processor set at 1500 mhz which would be underclocked would it hurt it.
A techie type question

What processor is your motherboard rated for? Also cooling down the chip with a couple extra fans will let you overclock.<a href="http://www.swoit.com/_29002524e5056a89a35492ee5bbfaae3/1"><img src="http://www.swoit.com/_29002524e5056a89aab68e286ae87b30/1" border="0" width="120" height="60"></img></a> -
Don't know then. I assume you have a fan or two cooling things down?<a href="http://www.swoit.com/_29002524e5056a89a35492ee5bbfaae3/1"><img src="http://www.swoit.com/_29002524e5056a89aab68e286ae87b30/1" border="0" width="120" height="60"></img></a>Comment

Sounds like too much heat..... It may be just that the temp in your office is higher or maybe a fan is not working as well as it was.Originally posted by tony404
My motherboard is a asus a7v333 it is rated for the chip. At 2000 mhz the cpu wasnt overclocked, that was what it was supposed to be at. It worked fine for 2 weeks.
Try another fan if you have room....
The only other thing could be you have played with the bios, updated it maybe?Comment

I didnt touch the bios ,I downloaded trojan hunter software but I doubt that it anything. A cpu that is supposed to at 2000 mhz and is now at 1500 mhz underclocked will that hurt it . With asus I can check the cpu and mb temp and they are both running very cool.Comment
