my theory:

1) most of the people who voted trump, did so just to stick it to hillary and the establishment, and not because they actually believe in trump

2) most people who voted hillary did so out of fear trump would become president and not because they actually believe in hillary...


I think these elections were unique because for the first time in history more voters turned out to vote against somebody than for somebody...according to a reuters poll almost 50% voted out of contempt for the opposite parties candidate and not out of belief in their own candidate...

and this poll was in may so the numbers may well be higher...the 2016 US elections may well be the best example of negative partisanship the world has ever seen...
