    Tech Wordpress internal linking question

OK, maybe this is stupid but anyway.

I am in the process of the optimising site for different keywords. That means that I am changing URL of exsitgin posts.

For example : femdomdestiny.com/strapped-down-and-exposed/ is now renamed to : femdomdestiny.com/balls-torture-with-clamps/.

I was wondering what is happening with internal links going to the old version of link? I ve just fugred out that WP alone is automatically redirecting to the new link. That is fine and I guess it is default Wp feature?
What bothers me is that on page where is link to the old version of URL still goes there. This is the example:

Femdom Torture and Brutal Leather Boots Worship (word CLAMPS) is linked to the old version.

Questions is how this affects SEO?
Is there a way to automatically change link on all pages on site into new and updated version?

    thanks
    Femdom Destiny

You are ok with SEO because you have the canonical link set up.
View the source of that page and it shows this :

    <link rel="canonical" href="http://www.femdomdestiny.com/balls-torture-femdom/" />

That tells google that this is not duplicate content; but a link change and the real link to this
page is Balls Torture With Clamps Inside The Femdom Dungeon

I never change URLs, especially if the URL gets traffic. If you want to target a new keyword you should start a new page shouldn't you?

That said yes WordPress will automatically create an SE friendly redirect but it's not 100% reliable. You don't need to update the test link in the post because Google will do that for you (eventually) but if you have a bunch of redirects the update process isn't as reliable.

With all these uncertainties I'd def recommend you create a new page

Yes, that is bothering me. Google is unstable. So I want to reduce risks.
Trick is that there are 94% of blog posts that are not optimized and it would be impossible to add all that content. We are talking about 1 700 posts that are not optimized.

Most of them will have a change in URL and that is the potential problem. That is why I am looking for the automatic solution or at least manual. But need to somehow know what page is linking changed URL. Is there a way?

If you change all your pages to a different url, you will see some traffic drops nomatter if canonical is setup properly.

Trying to "optimize" the posts that are already online/indexed is not a good idea IMO.
