    Anyone still using Wordpress?

If so, make sure to backup your core files before updating to 4.5..

last night after updating one of my sites, it started showing an 500 internal server error, and after the investigation we've found out that each and every visitor used up at least 300MB of RAM on each page load..

not sure if it's a bug in the release or the update process got stuck somewhere in the process, but re-uploading 4.4.2 fixed the issue..

anyways, keep your eyes on your sites a after updating.

    have a great day,

      Using Jetpack plugin?

If so, make sure to update it first. The two don't mix well if you are using a previous version of Jetpack.

Also, when receiving a 500 error check to see if static files load. Like images. Yes? Then it is Wordpress.

Next, rename Jetpack to something else. Like Jetpack2. Does it load fine? Then it was Jetpack. If not? Rename the entire plugins directory to something else.

Good? It was another plugin. Bad? Now rename your current theme.

Keep working... you will find it.

But for the OP, it is Jetpack if you have it installed.

Also, Piwik is a bad idea... if your blogs have traffic.

I've updated hundreds of Wordpress sites on different servers and haven't seen that? What did your server logs say? PHP logs?

Probably a plugin that isn't compatible with the latest wordpress. You can disable them one by one until you figure out which one it is.

Using jetpack here, I updated several WP this week and so far did not see the issue but thanks for the advice. Anyway, we keep server's backups too.

Sounds like a compatibility problem. Haven't seen any issues myself.

There's actually nothing wrong with Piwik. We have it tracking more than 1,000,000 visitors/month and millions of page views per month, various goal tracking, segments, reports, etc.

However, if you're site(s) have traffic, then I agree 100% that you absolutely have to perform due diligence and create a proper environment for Piwik to thrive. This often includes NOT running it on the same server as your traffic sites.

We run it from a dedicated cloud service with ample ram, SSD space, and proper number of cpu cores. Then just scale as needed. Plus, of course, the proper environment (NGINX, memcached, etc).

Here's a guide to Piwik How-To for environment optimization for others who may be interested in Piwik.

Having said all of that, 3rd party plugins/themes are usually the culprit when it comes to breaking of Wordpress.
