I'm loving magic tricks since I was a kid, but it seems the real magicians are gone. I've tried to watch some shows of modern "magicians" (e.g. Troy and Dynamo) on Discovery channel and was very disappointed and bored. All their so-called tricks are so childish and easy (in most cases I don't even need to rewind a video to tell how exactly it was done). What's wrong with this world? Do the people got dumber than 20 or 30 years ago? Is the real magic dead and there are no professional illusionists who can make us to believe?
Is magic dead?

I LOVE this movie about magic! Might have to pop the blu ray in tonight.

I don't like movies about magic. It's too easy to fool/fuck with the audience using editing tricks and so on.

So where is the magic?
at 0:57 he takes that card from the deck and puts it into his pocket to get it out in the next second.
at 1:08 he puts that signed card into his pocket again, pulls up some other card and inserts it into the deck. So the signed car is in his pocket again. What a surprise?
and so forth (I have closed the video after that)...
Sorry, but that's just a boring performance for small kids. Could you please post some real magic trick?
Edit: Ah, it was Damian (that's why I thought I saw that face somewhere)... Ok then
He should focus on something different, because his magician skills are on the same level as my skills in ballet: ZERO

A couple of years ago I saw Chris Angel's live show in Las Vegas. I'd like to know your thoughts on his stuff, but from my totally uniformed point of view, it was the most mind-blowing magic I've ever seen!I'm loving magic tricks since I was a kid, but it seems the real magicians are gone. Honestly, when he throws handkerchiefs into the air, then they turn into doves and fly over the audience and right into the back wall, and as soon as they "hit" the back wall, they turn into video doves and "fly away" I was just stunned.
When he asks people in the audience for numbers and then has someone from the audience open a box that was chained to the ceiling, they unchain, unlock the box, pull out a sealed envelope and tear it open to find a piece of paper with the numbers on it, like wtf?Red Light Center - Adult Metaverse

The only magician whose show I have visited in Vegas was David Copperfield. To be honest, I was very disappointed with his performance. I've expected something "wow", but it was too lame. As about Chris Angel, so I don't even know that name (sorry). Please feel free to post some videos of his tricks.
I need to see it by myself (at least on video) to comment.
That's a very simple and old trick. David Copperfield did it too.Obey the CowgodComment

That's like a scene of Gandalf fighting the Balrog
The edited video is shown from different points of view. I can't see what he's doing when camera switches to that woman's face and back every second (his hands are out of the screen almost all the time). That's is not a trick at all. That's just a special effect.

Wrong logic, it is the opposite - in the "dark days" there were less information (no internet, lol) so all the tricks were mysterious and it was wow. Nowadays everyone is "smart" and "knows it all" due to the abundance of information.Comment

Hmm, I don't think it somehow related to the Internet. I've made this thread because I've tried to watch the modern magicians on TV and caught myself that I can see how they do all their tricks. I don't need the Internet for that. I just see it. So, I still think its a degradation.
On the other hand, I still believe there are many real masters around the globe, but for some reason they are not invited into the popular shows. If that's true, it proves that average TV auditory got dumber.Obey the CowgodComment

Point was not the internet, point was that nowadays (due to the abundance of information mostly) people know much more, they are just "smarter" in the sense that it was like dark ages even 50 years ago.Hmm, I don't think it somehow related to the Internet. Take any 14 year old kid from 1950 and 2015 and you understand what I mean (I hope, since you expose yourself as not capable of thinking).
Like this guy posted:
Back in the days magic was magic (had more respect and was something wow) and nowadays people just look at it as a trick that they need to crack. It is all due to the information times we live in, not due to people being dumber as you dumbly suggested in OP.Comment

It still would be interesting to look at some trick which has no express explanation.Obey the CowgodComment

You do understand that magic doesn't exist right? So it is angles, mirrors and fakery. Is there really anything you don't understand about that? It is like oil painting. No big mystery is left so no one is amazed.Comment

Doesn't matter what t is. The only thing that matters is if you say "wow! how it was done?"Obey the CowgodComment

You say people are getting dumber LOL Fact is people are smarter and these tricks do not fool people like before and people do not believe in magic like that once did in the past because the internet ruins all secrets so anything can be found out.
It doesn't take much to figure that out. Well except for you could not do that and needed to make a thread for help.
Hey look I found a quarter behind your ear. I bet you fall for that one stillOur site is coming soon. It will be one of the best ever! I know so. Brian and PennyComment

Dont be silly. There were a load of unbiased strangers present to act ass witnesses. They examined the gate and it was real. They said so!
Plus his own mum didn't know how he did it and had to ask him! She would have looked at the gate herself and seen any hidden hinges. It was real Real magic. FACT!Comment

Exactly. Almost all those magicians from Discovery channel use fake bystanders. I did tricks like this when I was a 8 year old boy:
In 80's they were working fine for other kids, but not for adults. Can't believe they work nowadays.Obey the CowgodComment

Ok the, please just tell me the names of those "respected magicians". I'm asking for the names because those I've seen on TV are using fake bystanders and I can prove it.
P.S. Those bastards kill birds for their "ticks" (yeah, I see how it was done). I wish them rot in hell, sick motherfuckers.Obey the CowgodComment

I have no idea. Maybe Emil Kio or Wolf Messing (this guy is much more famous in the World's history than all that names together you have posted above), but I don't really care about their citizenship. I'm talking about the modern magic industry in general. I don't care of they are northern americans, southern americans or africans. Just give me a name of the one who doesn't use fake bystanders in his/her shows nowadays.Obey the CowgodComment
