I dropped for some major keywords today. I notice though in webmaster tools the http version of my site is losing rankings and the https is gaining. Traffic a little less, but not crippling. I'm still making sales.

I'll update this thread as soon as I know more.

Hopefully this is good news. I'll find out if I get my rankings back or not. I've changed as many incoming links to https as I could too. I redirected http to https too.

Anyone else notice any of this behavior? I assume it's to be expected.

Https may not be very needed on regular xxx sites.

If you change to HTTPs as it only makes sense to 301 the HTTP to the HTTPS... Anyone that tells you that Google doesn't care about links anymore needs to have their head examined. If you 301 to the secure connection you will at least be passing juice from your old URL

What do you mean exactly cause if you don't make your redirect permanent you get punished by search engines because they don't like temporary redirects..

Yeah, I hear there is a little SEO bump if you have it. Probably a rumor. Never know with Google, they are way to powerful and love to do crazy stuff. We seriously need to stop feeding the Google universe. We need to stop buying and using so much of their stuff.

                  Fuck Google.

Switched over to https over the weekend. This morning most of my best positions are gone.

Will see what happens across the next couple of days but so far it is just Fuck You Google.

I don't see how https makes any difference to most blokes like us. Do a search for just about any popular porn related phrase on Google and the top 20 results will always be tumblr pages or tube sites.

My traffic dropped 66%, due to reindexing is my guess. I'm hoping to update the thread a week later saying things are much better. Good luck.

I know you were making sales, and so was I, hopefully things just return to normal. Give a week before freaking out.

Update: I just checked one of my keywords and it's ranking where it should for the https:// version. I think we're good on my end now. The rest is a waiting game for the rest of the results.

Can easily be done through .htaccess or by specifying a $secure_url path via a config file, then making all links reference the variable vs an absolute path. Its a good idea if you have user data entered and stored. Not just CC details but emails, usernames, etc.

Of course if you just serve content and require no registration or stored data then I don't see the point.

If this makes no sense then please forgive me.. I have a cold and just took about 4 nyquils..

Took about a week to recover. I might have lost some sales but it's all good now.

Mine is still fucked at this point. Some movement in the right direction but not much.

Trying to be patient but it really is not one of my best attributes.

It seems to be happening more and more, anytime you make any kind of semi-dramatic change on the site you'll trigger a"Google dance".

Set up the ssl on the 22nd.

Then did up the webmaster tools. Somewhere in there I found I had an error and had the redirect to https as a 302 for a few hours.

Not sure when I finished all the setup, probably on the evening of the 22nd.

Revenue is up a bit though thanks to revshare but I am sending about half the hits and getting about a third of the sign ups that I was.

Not bad man, I think you're close to having it fixed, assuming it goes back to normal. I would worry in another week's time if you don't see improvement.

Like I went back EXACTLY where I was for certain search terms. So I'm hoping that happens for you.

Yep, on the 15th I got tired of waiting on google and dropped back to what I had up on the 22nd of December. Then changed the 301 to point at http://

Rankings came back a little over 24 hours later, I noticed the improvement yesterday morning.

Took about a week to recover. I might have lost some sales but it's all good now.
I put a certificate on my main site and followed pretty closely your experience. Now my main keyword brings my site up at the top of the first page of Google. It used to always be 4 page or higher. The best thing is my competition cannot use a certificate on their sites because of having to have outgoing http links. Bazinga!

If I'm not wrong you can have outgoing http links but you can't load the content from http.

Not for images or videos. I can't use embedded videos or hosted banners anymore unless they come from another https site.

if it's a public data no need for https
if there are private and or sensitive data being transmitted then https is a must.
