From a marketing perspective, is a dialer more like a pay per sign up, in that the surfer uses it once and you generate one payment from it? Or is it more like a recurring membership in that the surfer will use it month after month and the idea is to build an ever larger base of recurring payers?

I mean do you put up link straight from the gallery or do you use a java alert box on the page you link that gallery too etc...

Alot has to do with the way you promote it,But also has to dow with hold times and content... If thats not good forget it... I see that quality of traffic makes a big diff as well...
Guys with nice traffic always make more minutes... I have guys that do 5k of good traffic compared to a 100k cj site and the 5k does twice as much..........

I totally agree with snow on every aspect of what he says here. I just have a couple of things to add to this.
Let me first apologize to you mediaguy, I seen this thread last night but I had so many windows open and was doing some other things so I didn't get to get back with you.
Ok, first off, as I said, Snow was right in that quality means ALOT!!
Also though, the way you promote a dialer has alot to do with it too. Take my sites for example, I posted pics and banners and images, whatever on there and it worked like shit. I never got one download.. and then I did it with some very erotic text ads, it improved a bit. I then tried "just download the fucking viewer already" and that did a bit better.
HOWEVER, these things don't work on every site. You have to play with it and see what works best for you. I could go and hunt up the biggest dialer webmasters in the industry and have them come here and each would give you a different stragedy of what works for them. It's all a matter of your traffic, your sites and so on.
I have two guys for example that make a ton of minutes a day. one does it with blindlinks on his links list and does well, so I mentioned this to the other guy, he tried it and his minutes dropped....... same area in line of traffic numbers. THAT guy then tried images and started killing on minutes.
So in short, it takes a bit with a dialer to see what is going to work best for you. BUT and I can't stress enough, don't throw it up and say that it isn't working. try different things and different methods. And as someone said, give it at least a week. some give it 2 weeks. but don't think it's going to work in a matter of minutes, it doesn't usually work that fast.

Yes tam its true.... And like Tam says DONT try the dialer for 1 day get all pissed and take it down... I have been doing dialers almost a year now ,and the biggest problem i see is NOT BEING PATIENT.. Give the thing 2 weeks before you hop aropund like a jumping bean.There is such thing as recurring minutes... You havre to let it build.....
