But most of the Motel 6's I've ever stayed, the doors always opened to the outside. I clearly remember the one in Orlando when I was younger because my neighbors were running out of their room, jumping over the side rail directly into the pool below. I thought they were GODS amongst men.

There are also some hybrids out there that call themselves Inns, Suites, etc.

Don't know motel 6, but could be that they introduced new buildings later (as in started with the motel type building). And that it did not make sense to change the brand just for that.

Yeah seems like that is the general rule with them in most places. I recall in new orleans a lot of the hotels in the french quarter are enclosed with a courtyard with pools as well. Love those btw

If you take one step out and you're still inside the building, or take one step outside and you can see clouds in the sky. Fire emergency egress have always been used to determine which way a door swings.
