This sums up my view on the topic perfectly:

#4 Because, no matter how small, convenient or light the device gets, the problem is not the device, the problem is that you don't gain ANY substantial benefit from using VR glasses (not even for gaming at World of Warcraft). For example: Some low-res 360 Youtube videos are more fun to watch on iPhone than with proper VR glasses

Bullshit.

The content will be there and the glasses will be less and less obtrusive.

We are not talking 5 years, we are not even talking 2 years. Many products and services will sell better because of VR. I am betting the farm on it.

2 Weeks ago I attended the Fan Expo (Sci-fi / comic book / horror) show in Toronto (about 75k visitors a year). All the big companies including Intel, Sony, Microsoft, and even movie companies.

I had a chance to test the rift a few different times and it was really cool. One movie company was showing a preview for their movie Insidious Chapter 3. It was fucking great. You feel like you are sitting in the room with the character and all these things start happening around you. Totally scary and creepy.

Those Oculus Rift things are great - This guy spent 5 minutes with one and was convinced he could code and afford a helicopter...

He said he had numerous degrees in computing - It seems most of them are in VR - Think about it.....
