I own several mainstream sites I'm looking to have redone. A lot of the current code is slow and gets bad scores from google. Looking to fix them and then work on a mobile solution for them.

Unless your programmer is willing to work for peanuts, I'd suggest finding him other work.

There's a reason why this guy always has issues with people, and it's not the people doing the work.

I had bad experience with this freelance community. Recently I had to make some changes on my site and due to lack of time couldn't make by myself. Then contacted to one of the freelancers from elance.com. This guy promised me to do the work in time, but when the deadline was over, he started to play for time. I don't want to tell the full story, but I lost much time with this guy and the work was made with long delay.

I wouldn't send his wife ANY projects in fear of the private correspondence being copied and pasted by him. Yea, that's pretty professional.

Its big for a reason. Customers have to be aware of the pitfalls as with any other service. Research and documentation is key.
