let's see here, first lens started blowing about 2 stops, second lens cracked at the base, first d800 shutter broke... after I got all the sorted out (during a shoot naturally) the power at the location blew out

I feel your pain.

The flimsy plastic latch on the power cell attachment for my d80 broke - so to hold the (spring-loaded) battery pack flap closed I'm using a combination of fibre tape and black electrical tape.

A replacement battery pack for the Nikon is $200.

Tape is cheap.
