    Question for Space Ace

    Hello SpaceAce,

I just want to understand your sig. It shows the estimated number of civilian casualties from the US invasion of Iraq and then below an approximation of the number of people who died in 9/11.

Are you implying that there is a relationship between Iraq and 9/11? Or are these two estimates just placed there arbitrarily? 20/22 terrorists involved in 9/11 were from Saudi Arabia. Osama Bin Laden is from Saudi Arabia, and was hiding in Afghanistan. I am not aware of any evidence linking Iraq to 9/11 (or weapons of mass destruction post 2000).

I am still unclear about the justification for the US invading Iraq (like most of the international community.) Do people in the US see this as a payback for 9/11?

    Nope.

I think it was for oil or some other American serving motive.

    Yep...I'm from the US.

You must not have been around for all the controversy when I first put that in my signature.

It's fairly arbitrary. I am not trying to draw a direct link between the two events or use one as a justification for the other. It's just a straight comparison of two numbers. There is a point to the signature which I think some people understand and some people don't. Either way, I've never bothered to explain the comparison or try to justify it. People can think whatever they want about it. As I've said before, I know what it's supposed to mean and I think a few other people around here do, too.

I am sure there are people who see our presence in Iraq as a form of payback but I don't.
