It's not heartfelt, it's a robot reading an auto cue. Regardless of which side you believe to be true in this case, he needed to do an interview and answer real questions instead of reading this bullshit statement to make his girlfriend look like a saint. It's mostly praising her. Do a real interview with a good interviewer, be open and honest.

I have to say I always thought this conviction was very suspect.

Two guys had sex with her, one found innocent the other convicted ?

So the court found that she was capable enough to give consent to one guy, then at the same time too drunk to be able to give consent to the second guy. That was always a nonsense.

It is not easy to have much sympathy for anyone involved.
