I've heard it both ways. I work a lot in mainstream and they consider CPA, cost per acquisition, which is PPS for us in the adult business.

CPAction is sometimes referred to as CPL in mainstream. Different jargon in different spaces.

Rev Share - Simply share the profit/revenue (depending on business) between advertiser and publisher.

CPS/PPS - Cost per Sale/Pay Per Sale - Pays on the publisher one time for sending a purchase to the advertiser.

CPL/PPL - Cost Per Lead/Pay Per Lead - Pays the publisher one time for sending one lead to the advertiser.

CPC/PPC - Cost Per Click/Pay Per Click - Pays the publisher once for sending one click to the advertiser.

CPM - Cost per thousand impressions (or clicks in bulk traffic) - Pays per 1000 impressions of an ad.

CPV/PPV - Cost per View/Pay Per View - Pays the publisher for every time they show the advertisers ad.

CPI/PPD - Cost per Install/Pay Per Download - Pays the publisher for every person they send to download something from the advertiser.

CPA - Cost per Action - Which encompasses all of this as well as other things that are more complex like "per user register, complete questionnaire, stay on site 5 minutes browsing". Technically doesn't include revshare as its not a "pay per" model. CPL is CPA but CPA isn't necessarily CPL but it could be.

Forgot to add, the CPS vs PPS etc., in my experience typically advertisers use the CPS but the publishers use PPS. But it gets tricky when the advertiser talks to the publisher with which terms they are using.

The reason adult appears to be more PPS/PPL etc here on GFY is that most people posting are probably publishers or advertisers knowing publishers are checking their sigs and such. So primarily you will see PPS posted on GFY vs CPS.

I also think many adult advertisers came up self taught without proper education in terms of an official lesson in online marketing (not that its a bad thing) so its typical even for adult advertisers more so than mainstream to still use Pay per terminology as they started as pubs and became advertisers later.

I have much more experience being an advertiser so I usually use the CPS/CPL/etc. terms.

I am not positive this is how everyone says this stuff but if anyone else has any input to my theory I would be interested to hear it.
