    Most requested video compression formats?

What have you guys found? I know Mpeg-1 is popular and will continue to be popular (pretty much the Mp3 of video, there's better, but it's globally used and accepted).

What else is popular? Wmv? Divx? The old .avi ?

    Cheers,
    Matt

    Well
I have done video edition for a lot of paysites lately and I mosty convert from mpg and avi to wmv because that gets a file 75% smaller than the original one, and its played by windows media player without problems.
Some of them have both wmv and mov files,
I think the other formats are quite old fashioned and burn more than double of bandwidth, not counting DivX, but most surfers dont have the DivX codec installed, so I dont use it.
    Hope that helps
    Greetings

Windows Media Player is the number 1 format on the internet. Divx is making a play for space and Mpeg is still holding strong. Our money is on Microsoft.

wmv 75% smaller than a well encoded mpeg-1 of similar quality? I don't think so.

u still can't avoid the fact that surfers by a landslide favor MPEGs and many of them ONLY want MPEGs.

i wouldn't have a video site without offering MPEG as one of the options.

personally I love WMVs, very good quality at smaller file sizes than MPEG-1.

you're using too high a bitrate. you can get very nice videos at ~500kbps, file size will be about half of 150 megs.
