    Do conservatives hate the internet?

I thought this was interesting. A group did a study of the average internet speed of every state in the US. They then put together a map that showed all states and ranked them.

Here is the thing that caught my eye as I read it. Of the top 20 fastest states, Utah is the only "red" state listed. Of the bottom 20 slowest states 15 of them are "red" states. This could just be coincidence, but it kind of made me laugh.

It made me wonder. Do conservatives hate the internet or are there other reasons for this?

    Here is the story http://www.savingadvice.com/articles...et-speeds.html

Red states are often large, rural, and broke (as many at GFY point out on a regular basis.) Three strikes right there.

conservatives are some of the biggest internet pervs out there.
So I'm guessing it's a combo of other things. Some of these companies have such a monopoly on areas that they won't spend the money needed to upgrade their systems due to lack of competition

I saw the same report, but most blue states are highly populated and as such tend to have more larger cities. The internet speeds tend to be faster due to that.

It's more worth while for the various ISP's to spend more money where there is more opportunity to gain more subscribers. It's just basic business.

In those states, you'll also find no Medicaid expansion, measures to cut back voting hours, less women's health clinics per square mile and then there's that thing where the last electoral college map looks like the confederacy from the civil war times. The south is being held back by people with old ideas.

I doubt that's less of a coincidence than the internet speed.

Well, we don't have a political group called as conservatives, but people can be conservative. But the main point is that it is different thing to be "religious nut" than conservative. I don't think that conservative people use internet that much less than others, might prefer printed newspapers instead of electronic ones, etc., but that is it. I have very religious relatives, those wont even use internet, and they are kept as a "religious nuts". Although in general don't seem very nuts, at least when I have met them.

Utah is full of "religious nuts" as far as I know.

Agreed. My family have liberal and conservative sides to it. The conservatives are episcopal and not very religious. They are also the wealthiest. They like fast internet but they do not like the way it can be used to spread negative information that might affect them financially. They/we use the internet mostly for financial information and for porn. I lean to porn, they lean to financial with a heavy dose of free porn.

Income per capita, population density, number of ISP subscribers are all factors in the ROI of offering higher internet connection speeds. Also, the effect of 3G and 4G wireless' lower speeds needs to be factored in too. A lot of consumer internet usage is migrating to that bandwidth.

In more rural or smaller towns 3G/4G is more accessible than high speed internet land lines. Many of the "red states" are less urban concentrated.

Utah is the notable exception and also the most "pervy" -- it must be the internet that does that

Isn't it funny how conservative states are filled with poor people who vote against their economic interests?

whatever. vote republican & your paycheck goes nowhere. Vote dem & your pay goes...nowhere, but with higher taxes.

Not like the dems are looking to pass a living minimum wage, right? 10 bucks an hour? Wow they sure are fighting for the little guy.

Maybe your just referring to the poor that dont work & need government assistance. Yeah, i guess if your only life goal is disability checks, your should vote dem.

or do you think obamas 2 tier recovery, where only the yacht owners are doing better, is not his fault? how is obama treating wall street different than bush? How many people are in jail for 2008?

                      like i said, whatever.

As long as everyone is fixated on what party does what and not asking why your rep hasn't done shit, nothing will get better, vote out the bums, we can start with Obama
Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants
                        think about that
