    Microsoft Surface

A few months ago I bought a Microsoft Surface. So far I love it... It's replaced my tablet and my laptop. I was worried it was too small, but so far it's been great.

Anyone else got one and like it? Hate it? Anyone else using anything similar and like it?

Haha, you bought a Surface?? My condolences. Why throw away money on a dead product that is already obsolete when there are so many better alternatives, like an android tablet or iPad?

The Surface Pro is 100x times better than the iPad and or any Android. I personally do not own a Surface but have used one on many occasions and its definitely a laptop replacer if you actually want to get work done. Usually the people who hate on it have never used one and can not give a solid reason why they hate it.

Was given one and in kind gave it away. It was hopeless, half a tablet, half a computer and good at neither. The battery life sucked also.

I tried to like the Surface, kept an open mind and thought maybe, just maybe Microsoft were on to something. They aren't.

I'll stick to the iPad, if I need a computer (Max OS X or Windows 7) while mobile I'll use the MacBook Air - it runs both brilliantly and has twice the battery life of a Surface.

I knew SOMEONE had to have bought one.

And yes, everyone is using something similar, but and iPad or Android device because the Surface sucks donkey balls.

Damian, while I agree that most Surface tablets suck, you need to try the Surface Pro 2. It's incredible. It's a full on desktop PC in the shape of a tablet. It blows anything Android or iPad away. When docked, it supports 2 external monitors, keyboard, mouse, etc.

Can't wait for the Pro 3. It's rumored to have a core i7 and 4k resolution.

Hahaha, yes I'm sure you're right. That must be the reason why Apple has sold 100M iPads and Microsoft only 1M Surfaces, because the Surface is 100x better than the iPad. Just like the Zune was superior to the iPod. Whatever you're smoking, pass it over, because that's some good ass shit.

Hey bud, I hear you and if it works for you, that's great. But, for me, a tablet and a desktop a wildly different beasts.

If I want to edit photos or video, make music or any heavy lifting, I'll use my i7 MacBook Pro. If I want to just do email, surf etc then the tablet.

I don't like the idea of a hybrid device just yet. But, as I said, if it works for you, that's great.

I should mention I have the Surface Pro 2.

Some of you are missing the point - an iPad or a Android tablet doesn't cut it. Tablets are toys used for light surfing, Facebook, reading, music, and movies. I cannot operate from a tablet on the road. The end result is when I went on the road I carried both a tablet and a laptop.

The Surface is both a tablet and a laptop. It does my light surfing, Facebook, movies, reading, great. It's also a full PC and I can install all of the programs I need.

Someone else mentioned battery issues. It seems to last all day for me.

I have photoshop installed on my Surface and it runs with no issues. But you are missing the point - If you go on the road you have to bring you have to bring both your MacBook and your tablet. Not only am I carrying less devices, it's much smaller than a laptop.

I bought an Asus t300la. It's a 2 in 1 (laptop/tablet combo) running Windows 8. It's. fantastic. Surface didn't do it for me because of the shitty keyboard. It's surprising how good Windows 8 is with a touch screen.

It's mostly because people are sheep and they want to be in the Apple cult. I have an iPad (that my teacher wife received as a gift from the school system) and it stopped working after 2 months. So glad we didn't pay for it. I will say it was fun to use while it worked.

You're missing the point. The Surface Pro 2 is the first decent tablet MS has ever made, and it's only been on the market for 6 months. It's gaining traction fast.

Hope it's a bit lighter and thinner, then it's the ultimate device.

We have a laptop with Win8 and hated it. It's not until you use Win8 on a tablet that it makes any sense.

Oh, and I love the keyboard that came with it... but you can use any blue tooth keyboard.

I have a laptop. Laptop works fine. I don't need another laptop. I want something smaller than a laptop that functions as a PC.

I find it highly unlikely I'll ever own a apple computer. I tried, and it didn't make sense to me. It was more expensive, not any faster or better, had fewer choices, and less options.

Lenovo Yoga imo way better a as a frankenstain of pad and laptop. Surface... last time I looked at this device it didn't even have GPS and 3G yet, how can it compete against iPad or android tablets? It lacks vital features, it is horribly overpriced as it is, its' fair price as a sub-standard pad should be in ~$150-$200 range.

That's great. I doubt you are doing any heavy work with it though. How is for HD video editing at 1080P, or 30 + tracks in the Windows equiv of logic?

I'm really not missing the point, just disagreeing with you. I doubt you do any heavy lifting on a PC, no 1080P video, no huge multi track music with lots of VSTs etc. For YOUR use I am sure it is perfect.

If I am going away and need to work, I take the MacBook. It's light anyway. If I am going away and not working, I take the iPad. I'd not take both. Both have different jobs. Because you don't *do* any heavy lifting, the hybrid thing works for you and that's great. I was just taking the piss because the surface is one of the biggest flops in MS's history.

Confusion was that you did say just "surface" which is just tablet.
When you said surface pro 2 - it is another story - it is a computer, you can do everything with it. Tablets do not come even close. Surface pro 2 is a good thing. A little too bulky for my visual taste though.

Surface... last time I looked at this device it didn't even have GPS and 3G yet, how can it compete against iPad or android tablets? It lacks vital features, it is horribly overpriced as it is, its' fair price as a sub-standard pad should be in ~$150-$200 range.
Stop talking about android or ipad tablets as tehy do not compete with surface pro 2, which is a computer. Android/ipad are just tablets/toys.

It is neither computer nor tablet. As a laptop computer, with attached keyboard etc, there are better alternatives. As a tablet it can't connect to internet when there's no wifi around (no 3G), you cannot use it as a navigator (no GPS) and it is too heavy to use it with one hand. I'd say this is very strange hybrid which comprises flaws of both classes.

You are completely missing the point. You take a tablet OR a laptop when you travel while I take both in a device that fits in my pocket. As for heavy lifting it handles photo editing in PS without missing a beat. I don't do video editing, but the Surface is more powerful than the smallest Macbook air (which is both bigger and more expensive).

What you do with Photoshop isn't remotely heavy lifting.

Totally unsure of your point here. A Mac Pro is more powerful than the surface. So what? Who mentioned Mac Book Airs?

Bottom line, if you are happy with it, awesome. What does it matter what anyone else thinks, how they use their computer, or anything?

Least it's not over-priced, underspecified and uses all common software known to man instead of waiting for the snobs to "approve" apps that still don't do everything you want. Mac is a money-making machine geared towards people who think a name brand and name of OS mean anything.
