this has been talked about for some time I think... the difference being in the past there was little understanding of the quantum aspect of 'super conductors' and while there might not be energy loss on the super conductor floating over the magnet there is a great amount of energy spent on the cooling and much energy is lost at that point in the equation

But besides this, there's already work under way to to make super conductors work at room temperature, no cooling necessary. When they figure that out, it will change everything.

We are living in some freaking amazing times. Computers, flat screens, robots on mars, and it looks like we're right on the edge of some major scientific advancements... man I love science.

It was ELon Musk's Hyperloop I was thinking of but I don't think it uses the same technology.

Mark I haven't missed the point at all.. superconductors take HUGE amounts of energy to cool to '- what the fuck ever' and when they get superconductors to work at room temperature won't even be relevant because we will be using fusion anyway

No, you are missing Beaners point too. Landing Man on the moon wasn't really driven by innovation. It was "driven" by cold war hysteria and the head to beat the USSR. Love it or hate it, Commercialism and others drivers are a major requirement to technological innovation.
