It's because the life for the vast majority of people in the US is actually quite good, and when you have cable TV and plenty of food and decent place to live, plenty of cars, toys, money for going out, etc, etc, etc... You don't tend to get very violent. When those things go away, that will change very very fast.

If we didn't have those things, it would turn into Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome in 3 days at the most. It's because the life for the vast majority of people in the US is actually quite good, and when you have cable TV and plenty of food and decent place to live, plenty of cars, toys, money for going out, etc, etc, etc... Sorry, but that is not true. The average poor person in the USA has more square footage of living space then a MIDDLE class person in the EU, a car, a cell phone, and cable TV. The poorest people in the US are in the top 8% of the world's wealth.
Look at actual stats, not the hype.

LOL, what planet are you from, man?

Do you think that people in Kiev don't have all these things too? Are they starving? They have no cars, toys (smartphones, iPads etc) or there is no cable/IP TV in Ukraine? As about decent places to live, I bet you will get much more fun in Kiev rather than in your gloomy Miami (yeah, your beaches are cool and the Ocean is just amazing, but that's all fun you have there).
As about the money, so this is a thing which varies greatly from a person to another one. No money = no fun. But once again, in the globalized word, the money thing is also globalized. For example, I live in Moscow but I work in the Internet (literally everywhere in the World). If I move to some other city or country tomorrow, my earnings will be the same. Perhaps my expenses will change somehow (e.g. here in Russia I pay only 6% tax, I have a free medicine (don't need to pay for obamacare shit) etc).

If people are relatively poor than others around them, they stay unhappy. They really don't care if they have more food and facilities than people in Africa.Sorry, but that is not true. It still doesn't change the central fact of this thread, which is that when the VAST majority of people are quite comfortable, then there is rarely any truly violent protests on any large scale.

I have been to Kiev twice, one of my best friends grew up there, and there are so many things incorrect in this post that the chances of finding common ground are obviously ridiculously small and a waste of time. Carry on with that world view and good luck!

oh come on, situation in EU is not that bad ;-))))
but comparing EU & North America's populations with rest of world - even poor people in America and Europe have more (ie: running water, 24/7 electricity/ etc) than people in Africa, South America and Asia....Comment

You know it. CyberSEO is just a US hater, let him vent...
Looks like they are balling over there
1500 UAH actually sounds a little high for the "average" salary, but it takes many factors into account.ha
Government officials make a crazy amount of money compared to the rest of the country (~$3000/mo). High-tech people make the $300-500 range, many business people make good (unreported) income. But it also does not take into account the great number of unemployed, either.ha
Teachers make about $75-80 USD, not UAH, at the elementary level. That goes up to roughly $175 for a seasoned university professor or school director.ha
--- Edit ---ha
Larry needs to visit Ukraine and spend some time there, before he listens to what the government censored papers say.ha
Unemployment and underpayment is a big problem, which is why nearly 14 million Ukrainian citizens have left to take jobs in Western Europe (many of them illegally).ha
Many people in Ukraine work "under the table", at least partially, which makes it nearly impossible to get accurate statistics on salary and unemployment. But believe me... Ukrainians do not "average" $652/mo (3000 UAH).

My wife was a professor there until recently, we lived there until March 2007, and my monther-in-law is still a school director there.Comment

A hater??? No way! A don't-give-a-shitter maybe but not a hater for sure. The last time I've been to the USA was just a year ago. I love traveling that country (because of its nature which is very different to ours in both Europe and Asia). Furthermore, I'll told you a secret. I'm always visiting Miami, because I really love the Ocean/beaches there. Atlantic in Florida is as cool as Pacific sucks in California ;)
I love the USA as a country to travel (it has everything I need: an interesting and very different nature, very good roars and a quite nice transport infrastructure), but it's not a country I would like to live in for longer than two months (actually 2-3 weeks there make me miss my Homeland).Last edited by just a punk; 12-05-2013, 06:57 AM.Obey the CowgodComment

I do support all this Ukrainian movements towards the EU. Course the association won't make them a EU country (like Turkey, for example). The people there is used to live as a dependent nation (dependent on Tzarists Russia or Poland, dependent on the USSR on Nazi Germany, dependent on the EU and so on).
Course nothing will change there until they change their mentality, their laws, their attitude etc. On the other hand, that is their youth generation wants, so let it be. I'm for the truly renewed and independent Ukraine as a country. Enough being an appendage, sucking a mother's breast. Grow up and become really INDEPENDENT from anybody. Become a country with your own economics, your own army, your own politics etc. I sincerely believe it will happen someday.Obey the CowgodComment

The problem with America, is that the people here have forgotten that the shit heads in DC work for us. Instead people have been conditioned to thinking there is nothing they can do. Occupy Wall-street was the closest this country has been to real protests in a very long time and overall it was non violent. Yet the US cops beat and arrested the people whom were protesting just for non violent civil disobedience.
Honestly I like my country, but real anti govt protests are long over due, more specifically anti police state/spying. It was a bit disappointing to see the govt crush OWS so easily. I was hoping it would spiral a bit out of control and be able to force the change that needs to happen. Simply put the citizens should not fear their govt, the govt should fear the people. That's the difference between the US and EU countries. In the EU the govt's are scared of the people, but that's not the case in the US..
It was quite ironic to see the US embassy speak out about the govt. cracking down on the protestors in Ukraine, when here in the US peaceful protesters were sprayed in the face with pepper spray then arrested.Last edited by crockett; 12-13-2013, 05:35 AM.In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment
