It was down and then accessible but paralyzed by glitches for around 8-12 hours, which is a big deal for the thousands of people who happened to have auctions ending in that period. Or even after it, as the lead-up to an auction end is of course when everyone bids up the item.

There was a planned maintainence in the middle of the night for an hour or so, but something went wrong.

Ouch, that sucks. I just had an item get bid up nearly an additional $600 in the final 5 minutes of an auction, so yeah, a lot of people took losses there.
