Can a database not assigned to a domain affect ram used? Hypothetical situation: I move database from host A to host B with the intention of switching to host B. However I never change the nameservers so therefore the site remains hosted at host A. Is it possible still that the db itself, though not actually being used could affect the ram at host B?

if its using innodb then yes. else not much -
Not sure about that have to look that up. Host is saying that the server crashed several times. I have 4 dbs 2 of them are unassigned because sites never moved over. All site wp. The 2 that are there, receive very little traffic have about 200 post each.

Do you need a home for your sites? This is the second thread I have read in the last week about your server problems. Server don't need to be a problem, if you find the right one.Comment

Um...this happened with a well know provider (highly recommended on gfy of course) and the service is a vps
I had 8 different hosting accounts im going to minimize it to 2 or 3 this month and only keep sites up with traffic/sales. This is crazy. How can i be crashing the server before I even put the sites there.

This happens when you use a server that is setup to run php in a jailed environment. Php_exec if I remember correctly. That is bad. It is wordpress, not the DB that is bringing you down, but only because the server is not setup correctly.
In this configuration a new php is opened for every include. In wordpress that is about 50 just to see index page. So memory is used up with 4 or 5 people on the site. You need a new host. That one won't work.
