GFY Wordpress uberpimps, step inside please

I am building an authority site.

It will consist of 500 pages and, as projected, over 400,000 words (along with tons of pictures, diagrams, related videos, and infographics).

I want to use wordpress for this

Is it possible to set it up so that visitors to the site will see a static main page with the 5 main categories and descriptions. They click the categories and they get a long list of subcategories. They click on a specific item off this static list and pull up the actual content page.

Is there a theme that is optimized for this or can I pretty much do this with any existing theme?

Do I need any special plugins for this?

    Thanks in advance, compadres

Well are you planning to do this yourself? Or are you looking to outsourse. Sure, you can do this yourself with wordpress and lay it out any way you choose, almost regardless of theme. It's just a matter of php, html and css knowledge.

I would like to do it myself. Is there an existing theme that makes this easy? It is a very simple layout I have envisioned for the site: main page = listing of 5 categories with description for each. Click one of those categories and you go to a page with a list of subcategories and related questions. Click a link from those then you get to the authority content.

It seems to me you are talking about simple menus - WP has a very powerful menu system built in - Use a basic theme and then click on 'Menus' - Play with them for a while, I think you will find what you need...

Is there an existing theme that already does this? Maybe a platform like genesis?

                  Will hit you up, BD?

There is a theme called KnowPress that fits what you're describing. Check out the live preview.

Anyway, you don't need no special theme for that.

You just design a custom (static) main page with links to everything you need.

Any theme can do that, it's a WP feature.
