Anyone using Kava here?

I used to take it in NZ where you can get it in the supermarket and it was pretty good.

It made my lips go numb but I can live with that - It has a great calming effect and controlled my night terrors.....

Can anyone recommend the dose ect to take - I have seen from 500mg to 5000mg for the same concentration of Kava - That's a big difference.....

Anyone use it here that can help?

I was making a very nice Kava and Ginseng tea a few years back. So relaxing. Feels like floating on a cloud made out of titties.

I would start small and use only the real raw root, not the extracts/pills/etc... 3g of raw root is probably a safe starting dose, wait at least an hour before drinking more, it hits you slowly... you don't want to over do it, it has 9 hour half life so if you fuck up, you could have a bad trip lasting for hours...

it's probably best not to do it too often, it has been reported to be hepatoxic, some liver failure deaths have been linked to it, so go easy with it, I would aim for not more than once per week...

if you see your skin turning yellow or if you get abdominal pain, then you are probably fucked, your days are numbered, great time to visit your priest and to tell your family you love them...

Extracts from the root or just the plain pulverized root is not known to cause any harmful effects to the liver. I also recommend only using the pure natural root if available and only extracts if it is from a very reputable company who will use only the root in their product.

yea, you are right, I was half-joking about dieing from it, but still word on the street is to be careful with it... consuming raw kava root from a reputable source in moderation is probably safe, but I would keep the potential risks in mind... I certainly would avoid chasing an ounce of raw kava root with half a bottle of booze or using it while on tylenol or other hepatoxic meds...

i had found some kava tablets in a local store and they worked like a charm but they stopped carrying them. i think they had the entire plant in it. like others said, you only want the root extract as the stems and leaves can be toxic and harmful over time. i need to go find some of that too, melatonin just doesn't have the same effect for me.
