Depends on yur skills, your interests, who you promote and to WHOM, but #1 challenge:

Traffic.

If you can get it you can still make money. if you can't then you're fucked like a $2 whore with no lube.

I came back myself from a 5 year break just a couple years ago. A LOT has changed and to be honest, it took me a good year to realize that what worked 5 years ago, doesnt work as well anymore.

TGPS are still pumping, but there's not as many and most surfers know that tubes will give more. However, get your tgp in top SE results, you'll be happy. I'm just saying, don't spend all your time on tgps as a way of making money unless you can get top results and feed the hell out of it from your own network. Gallery submissions are nice, still. Although, less sales from it, it does feed sites quite nicely.

Things that seem to work:
Well built/linked tubes (lot of work)
articles articles articles
social social social
blogs (lots of em, brand the fuck outta them and feed em) with articles articles articles

Feed your shit from all over and brand the fuck out of everything.

Stick to a niche that's not over-saturated and sites that aren't over-promoted but don't build your shit just in mind of promoting the sponsor, promote and brand your own "money site" and use the ads to advertise where to get more of what you display on your money-site.

But like anything, this is just what I find works. As for sponsors? A lot has changed.. lot of new names in the crowd but a lot of good ones from back in the day are idle after being bought up.

At risk of sounding like a self-promoting buffoon, take a look at our stuff (see sig) and see if any of our sites would do well with your promotional flare and methods.

I don't recommend building up again from nothing if you plan on only being a paysite affiliate. You can make money still but there are other industries where on average you will make more per hour of your time. If you can easily get a lot of traffic and have sure ways to convert the traffic to dollars then by all means knock yourself out. But as a paysite affiliate keep in mind that even building a general porn site to 10k/day these days usually means peanuts since most are looking for freebies and they have been trained to demand it. It's not being a Debbie downer. It's just telling it as it is.
