You got it..... I was thinking about running that scan program but I am wondering how much data that would use? Because my wife got scammed at best buy while purchasing an iPad we no longer have unlimited usage on our wifi plan with sprint. So how many bytes is something like that gonna use?

I used to run it. It downloads packets and then process's them. It's not a huge amount of bandwidth. It just uses hella system resources.

I used to run it about 10 years ago, think it's changed a bit since then, different priorities or something. I got a bit disillusioned when DVT set his sites up, I thought he'd already made contact.

We've been looking in the wrong place for alien communication. Science offers an answer. Looking for radio wave, electro magnetic or even light communication between advanced alien civilizations is wrong. It's too slow. Science now proves technology exists for things such as communication using Quantum Entanglement theory offering instant communication faster than light. Advanced aliens would use something like this for speedy communication over vast distances in space and use radio wave, electro magnetic or light communication as we now use snail mail for communication vs email.

Einstein even referred to this as 'spooky action at a distance'.

I doubt you'd find any letters sent 100 years ago on the side of the road, it's current communications we need to be looking for. Ways to look for communication via Quantum Entanglement theory is our current best bet for finding off world intelligent alien communication

It's a waste of time and energy. Nothing will ever be found with it. Space telescopes will end up finding many inhabited worlds in the next 10-20 years. It's better to use something like folding@home or world community grid. At least these two programs have resulted in about 150 peer reviewed scientific papers and have actually increased scientific knowledge about biology and other topics that actually affect mankind.

Yes. I run it on a spare PC. It downloads some stuff, runs some calculations for a few hours or days at a time sometimes, uploads its findings back and downloads the next batch to be processed.

You can let it run in foreground, background, or as a screen saver which is what I do. This way it doesn't use up resources when you need your machine for something and makes for an interesting and very active screen saver.

Most earth like planets (%80-90)are around red stars and are much larger than earth. Red stars are also much more stable than yellow ones like ours. Life on these planets would be much more complex being both smarter and stronger. Also these large planets have much more natural resources.

Any aliens from these star systems would only come to marvel at how such a weak yellow star life form managed to remain in existence.

Theory this theory that - hell, I could write a whole paper about my theory detailing how someone like you manages to work up the brain power to make a computer turn on. The next one about how you manage to make keys write (HALF WAY) intelligible sentences would be even longer.
