    another math problem

When Al and George ran a 100-meter race, Al won by five meters. So to give George a chance they raced again, but this time Al started five meters behind the starting line. Each man ran the race at the same speed as in the first race. What were the results of the second race?

It was a tie, then they beat the hell out of each other to figure out whose penis was bigger before going to bag some chicks at the local pub.

If they run at a constant pace that is the same as the first race Al wins by .25 meters.

                  Not too hard...

When Al had run 100 meters, George had run 95. Now we don't know how long it took them to run the race, but that doesn't really matter so we'll call the period of time 'X'. Hence Al ran 100 meters per X and George ran 95 meters per X.

In the second race it Al has an extra 5 meters to run. Since he runs at the same speed (100 meters / X) going 5 more meters takes him (5 meters /100 meters per X or) .05 X. So it takes Al,
                  1.05 X to run 105 meters.

George didn't finish the first race (or if he did, he wasn't timed). However we do know that he ran 95 meters in the period of time we call X. For him to go the remaining 5 meters to reach the finish line it would take him (5 meters / 95 meters per X or) .0526 X. So George runs 100 meters in 1.0526 X.

Again we see that Al still wins, reaching the finish line in 1.05 X with George crossing at 1.0526 X. When Al crosses the finish line (after running 105 meters), George has run about 99.75 meters.

You got the answer while I was typing my explanation. I figure with people answering 8kg to this question a little description of how to solve the problem might help.

Took me 7 seconds to get it. I do the same math but in short form. Al ran 5% faster than George. 95% of 105 is 99.75. Al finished .25 ahead.
