Email Marketers - Question...

When sending email marketing campaigns, do you find it better to attach files or link to files on your site?

For instance, I'm trying to send an email that contains screen shots and not sure if it's best to attached JPG's, a PDF or link to either or?

I know with links, it's tricky as to the person may be weary to want to click or not, but I have a rather small list of a few thousand and don't really have the chance to test.

Just put a link code in it. I usually put a hyperlink on every email campaign I sent.

Your not gonna send a shitload without getting blocked.. well not easily anyway. It would be best for you to start SMALL at first and build up from their.
You want to build up trust with your ips before you send out tons.

Agree with this. Damian is king when it comes to email marketing. I have worked in an email marketing firm and I can say that he is 100% spot on.

Why would anyone attach a picture? You send and HTML file with the pictures hosted. And they shouldn't use a work email addy to sign up for porn.

I don't think that in the 10 years vie done email marketing I've ever heard of anyone attaching an image.

This is a NON adult email, so the pictures are related to their business.

We send screen shots, however the problem is when talking to people that opened the email, they say "I didn't click on the link because I don't know what the file is, can you email me an attachment?"

This happens more than expected, so that's why I ask.

My hunch is the link to the image is masked by tracking codes within the email (so we can track link clicks in the emails) so when they hover over, it shows a different URL than one with a .JPG or something.

What do you think?
