Has anyone here upgraded to Windows 8 yet? How did it go?

I will be sticking with Windows 7. Haven't actually tried Windows 8, but right now I don't care.

I've used Windows 8 since Consumer Preview came out in February so no idea about upgrading and problems with that but.

You might like it and you might not, it depends how you handle change.

Install it in something like VMware Player and use it for a while to see whether or not you're going to like it as it is different from Windows 7 - no start menu (though you can buy software that would let you have one), no Aero glass effect in desktop mode etc

Windows 8 really sucks, it's for touch pads and I can't understand how can an adult webmaster TASKS made into a touch pad.. be it editing wordpress, ftp, editing code, design in photoshop, its IMPOSSIBLE.. And I tried..

Nothing better than a powerful DESKTOP Custom made machine with the most powerful ASUS and INTEL micro and max memory into a thermaltake case with Windows 7 and a 27 inch Monitor, good keyboard and good mouse...

Touch pad sucks.. Yeah I know windows 8 can be used in regular PC, but ITS INTENDED for touch pad, thats the truth.

Upgraded with no problem. Only had to update a driver on my NVidia Quadro FX 4800 vid card and update my Adobe Premiere CS6 to 6.03 (gpu on the vid card used for rendering vid)

I don't know. I use my own player on my site. As do most sites. So I'm unsure what they are talking about. But then again I never use IE so maybe I haven't seen that yet.

right, but your player is a flash-based player right? So it should be affected.
I'm thinking not personally, but for all the visitors using windows 8 of sites that use flash players (pretty much all)... all the sites will break.

I bought a new laptop with Windows 8 and absolutely hated it. I didnt find it faster than windows 7 at all, and it is horrible if youre multi tasking and trying to get real work done.

I returned it to the store, and I ordered a windows 7 machine.

If you do serious work on your computer do yourself a favor and do NOT get windows 8
it might be great on a tablet, but for a work computer forget it

The only real problem with windows 8 is that they didn't make 2 actual versions. 1 version should include metro but not aero for touch devices; the other should include aero but not metro for non touch devices (desktops).

As it stands.. metro is merely ok.. but I found it a waste of time heh so I run Classic Shell and set it to skip metro altogether... it's still there if I want to use it, but I never do...

Got a new laptop with Windows 8... had to uninstall it. It's a pain to use and quite frankly... there is no need to switch right now. Unless I am missing something amazing

My recommendation would be: stick with Windows 7 for now.

I was helping my neighbor set up some basic stuff in her new Windows 8 laptop. Nightmare to work with for someone who is used to previous versions. Instead of taking the best of both styles of navigation (metro and aero) it looks like they implemented the worst features of them. Not switching anytime soon myself.
