They have money and could have fixed this years ago... then spent the money to change the perception of the public of how bad it is/was.

The core basics of the browser are often fucked and we see this day in and day out in the web hosting business.

There has to be a bigger reason as to why they just haven't fixed it.

I have not used it in years, but I was under the impression their new versions have been much better and worked out a lot of issues, especially relating to accepting html5 and css3 technologies.

As to their older versions, they are already released and in use, can't really just fix them. For now if you feel like actually supporting older versions (In web dev, I personally don't give a fuck about IE at all). then you need to use css / javascript hacks.

I don't think so... I work for a huge Hosting company and we just refer people to use Firefox or Chrome.

This solves so many issues, its scary.

Once the customer realizes Firefox/Chrome is better... Internet Explorer is history... they leave it behind.

IE9 is full of bugs.
it's annoying nearly every day and every day i have to do a ctrl + alt + suppr to remove a window that freezed because i slided a pannel involuntarily

IE9 was ok but only used it for certain things, mainly use chrome now, but as ofa week or so IE9 keep crashing on tons of pages for no reason, pages it never had problems with. There are not little sites either, it big ones like yahoo etc.

I'm a front-end engineer (of my own sites now).

I hate IE.

The problem is the fucking Trident - the IE engine, written in C++.

It seems that Microsoft just don't care about improving the code of his engine to make it read web pages properly. Instead, they prefer to invest time and money in marketing.

Gecko is the Mozilla Firefox engine, and WebKit is the Apple engine, used by Safari and Chrome. Both, Gecko and WebKit have a smart team working on it, and most importantly, they really care about making a better internet. They even help W3C to improve HTML5 and CSS3.
