I have no experience with Elance, but oDesk is way better than Freelancer, that's for sure.

i've used Freelancer many times and usually am quite happy with the work and price - this is mostly for HTML/CSS and Flash work - never tried to hire anybody for coding PHP projects off any of those sites.

Word of advice, don't bother working with indian or pakistanis, you will be disappointed 9 out of 10 times. They pay absolutely 0 attention to detail and will send you something marked as complete they haven't even tested so that YOU can test it and say it doesn't work and fix this, fix that, etc.

I can't stand that.

At the moment im working with a vietnamese group on a freelance website not listed here.

Small job with only css code needed.

We both accepted the project 27th sep and still not completed. I have not received a line of code so far.

I cancelled the project yesterday because I don't want to wait any longer, today they denied my cancellation, It's now up to the site operator to deal with it.

Can you imagine....I've been so furious today because of this.

What I've noticed with 3rd world developer groups is that their priority is to get awarded. When that's done they start to look at the actual project. FAIL.

$$$ is worth alot in south east asia.

I have also worked with indians and just like you explain they don't have any feel for details and it's pretty much just a waste of your own time.

I will look into oDesk or Elance after this rubbish and try find a russian coder.

Elance, but I've been getting more and more garbage lately. I hired a guy to do some copy writing for a mainstream website and it was pure crap. I could have hired a 10 yr old to write better copy.

OMG SOOO TRUE. Im having this guy program me a simple drop down menu. I needed it done within 1 day.. for $30. 2 weeks later... still work in progress. hAHAHAHA.

I use some nepal company for small projects. Do a good job at a great price but they are slooooowwww.... everytime after a project I tell myself: I'll make a deal with penality ($) if they don't make it on time. And I keep forgetting about it at next one!

Also in Freelance you wouldnt get cheap bids anymore.

In Odesk you would get lower bids but for less qualified personal
