iPhone 5

So it's officially been almost a week with the iPhone 5. I must say I'm quite impressed. The speed of this thing is insane... On AT&T's LTE it's approximately 6x faster than when I connect to my Comcast connection via wifi. The taller screen is nicer to look at but tougher to swipe downward to pull down the notification screen with one hand while you're driving.

It's extremely light weight, very thin... The anodized aluminum back has a very silky, high quality feel in your hand. It's very delicate feeling, so if you drop it you're very likely fucked. The phone simply looks like it means business. The new connector has a great feel, is extremely tiny, and is reversible.

Battery life over my 4S is head and shoulders better. The 5 will make it through an entire 24 hours with 8 hours of usage... The 4S needed to be charged half way through the day.

The front facing camera does 720p for FaceTime now.

I consider it a definite worthwhile purchase if iPhones are your style. You can't really go wrong with it.

I preordered through the Apple store... got one on September 21. The second one had a delivery date of October 5, but it actually showed up two days ago.

Contracts are just a con. At least in the UK. It works out MUCH cheaper to buy the phone outright at the start, and get a rolling monthly contract for your minutes and data. I pay about 20 bucks a month for my talk/texts/data and can sell my phone for not that much less than I paid for it each year when I want a new one...

What were you guys doing with your iPhone4 to make it need to be charged twice a day? Mine easily goes all day and most of the time, 2 days. Although I normaly charge it at night out of habit.

Looking at mine right now and it has 82% left at 9:30pm. It hasnt been on the charger since 8am.

Funny how Apple has become the company they hated in 1984. They were forced to do that when they realized Samsung was besting them. They didn't care before that.

That's a problem, IMO. I've had my iPhone since it was first introduced. It's plenty scuffed up, at this point, but it's been dropped many times - including on concrete sidewalks and ceramic tiles - and it's still kicking.

Phones get dropped. They just do.

I've waited this long - can't hurt to wait a bit more.
