Computer problem: ?Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

So my new computer was working 100% fine and then suddenly bam! ?Display driver stopped responding and has recovered".
Out of nowhere this started happening and won't go away.
It happens when i start a game but it also happens during normal web browsing. After that i have to reboot. Basically i can't use my computer anymore as this happens all the time.
I have Googled at least 20 different sites as this seems to be a widespread problem and many people are talking about it. Yet no one has been able to find a solution. At least as far as i can tell.
Wondering if someone here had the same problem and managed to fix it.

Videocard is a gtx 680 although that doesn't matter much i think as i've read about the same problem with a dozen different cards.

I can't believe it an issue with the card as so many people have similar issues. With all different type of cards. And yes i have the latest drivers. I also tried other, slightly older drivers.

Well, i do care. I have a brand new computer and i can't do shit with it.

I really want to avoid the final option which is sending everything back to the store.

This is ridiculous. There are already 3 people in this thread who had the same problem. Even more ridiculous is that there seems to be no solution. Besides buying other hardware apparently.

Try reverting from DirectX 11 back to DirectX 9. From what I have been reading this has seemed to work on most systems, and eliminate the crashes. Apparently this is a windows issue, and there is really nothing you can do about it until MS fixes it. I guess it crashes your card instead of you receiving the good old BSOD.

I also read about underclocking the card a bit by like 25-35

I had this on a HP machine, it ended up needing a BIOS update, take a look at the manufacturers download area on their website, often even brand new computers need an update out of the box, BIOS are not normally auto updates whereas a graphics driver update is normally auto, so conflicts can arise.

If you are not getting the blue screen then there is no need to replace hardware. It's software based, and 95% of the time a conflict from new adware, software and so on, so if your BIOS is up to date try restoring the system to a date before this began, or type msconfig in your start menu and disable startup programs that you dont need and restarting etc, it takes a while, but is the easiest way.

Well not sure if it works yet but installing Windows took 10 minutes. Compared to 2 days of trying everything else possible. Not that noob if it works.

I had same issue last week. Was playing Diablo 3 late Monday night got "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" 4 times. Next morning cpu would work for about 2 minutes and then shut off. Seen fan was not working so went and bought new video card. Same damn issue first display driver stopped responding then damn fan on cpu sounded like it was about to take off. Just went out and bough another cpu.
