what is going on?? windows error...

So in the middle of the night i start hearing my computer make the 'alert' noises every so often. I check in the morning and i have this window that says

"cookies is a windows system folder and is required for windows to run properly. it cannot be deleted"

what the hell...i never tried to delete anything. now this error pops up every so often. i thought maybe it was a virus. i do a scan with comodo but nothing shows up. does anyone know why my computer might be doing that? i am running xp.

For some reason, something is trying to delete the cookie folder itself and not just the cookies. If it's spyware, probably an amateur way of trying to get rid of them or index.dat..

Save yourself some time and batch install Windows on 365 partitions and just delete one and use a new one each day.

i assume it must be some kind of virus..even though comodo found nothing (though it was an out of date version, i need to update it..) i installed malwarebytes and it found a bunch of stuff. since i've removed them it hasn't done this. thanks for the replies everyone!
