    404 redirection question

I've only been in this biz since July and never even considered the amount of galleries I would be making when organizing files on my server...so I made a big fucking organization mistake.
What I would like to do is reorganize those files and maybe even delete some galleries that are over 8 weeks old and redirect the 404 traffic to either my tgp or to a sponsor page.

So my question is this...should I do this? Is this a bad thing to do that will eventually lead me to getting banned?

I am not wanting to do this...but the problem I am running into is it takes a damn long time to log into my server when ftp'ing because of my dumb ass mistake.

Any ideas, answers, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thx,
    eros

If you're not getting any traffic to those galleries anymore, it should be okay. I've also seen CGI scripts that can redirect the traffic to the new (correct) URL, but I have no idea where you would get one of those. Check http://cgi.resourceindex.com

Quite possibly. You can redirect 404 by using htaccess, but I would advise first trying to reorganize your stuff in a way that will prevent as much 404 as possible.... and in the future, when you plan your structures... think on a massive scale, and take into account the implications of what you're doing will mean over the course of say,.... a year.

I've got a few mistakes in my own structures. Nothing too serious, but they do have an impact. I have 404'd some stuff that was older than 30 days, but try like hell not to.
