Server Side Conversion Software

Hi there,

I am looking for a script or software that could take say a hi-def mp4 file and convert it to WMV and IPHONE files automatically on the server. We do currently have FFMPEG with Carma which can convert from WMV to Flash, but I'm looking to fully automate conversion for all our files from the server.

I did see one company that seems to do this, but you have to use their server for the conversions which is not ideal (I'd like to be able to use our own servers).

If anyone knows anything, or even knows a Programmer that could set it up for us, please spam me.

So why don't you just upload all the files to an put dir and make a quick php script that runs on cron that scans the dir and convert with ffmpeg what needs to be converted to an output dir?

LOL...I guess because I'm not a Programmer and don't know php from pcp.

My Tech guy might be able to handle something like this though, I will pass it on to him, thank you! It would be nice if there was an 'out of the box' solution though where there was a user interface, and we could just tick the boxes for what we wanted to convert the file to.

The you're converting from one compressed format to another. If you have the uncompressed video files on your local PC you could convert on there and then upload to server. ffmpeg compression really is shit compared to something like Telestream Episode.

I'm using pandastream.com for video encoding. It's a third party service, but works well, and you pay per processor, not per mb.

MP4Box (Needed if you want to enable HD video conversion)

We've put together the little scripts like konrad mentioned. Just email us. There IS a trick to it, a common mistake. If you want to preserve the same quality, you can package the video into a wmv package without re-encoding it. You can also package as mov, but the iphone plays an unpackaged mp4 directly as well. (Most anything will play unpackaged mpeg4 because that's what is inside a wmv, flash, or mov anyway. *


* these package formats can also hold other types of video, stills, or audio. Old mov files often contained something very similar to standard mpeg4, but all commonly contain mpeg4 h264 these days.
