For thumblogger? I don't think there is an approval for new blogs. You just pick a doamin name and if it is available , it's yours. -

Everyone is different, I think Twan or a mod said before that most accts that aren't approved are from certain countries. I might be wrong though.
I have thousands of TL blogs and I've never has one that needed to be approved and are always live instantly for me..

The money comes from your blogs, the blog directories (The ones that are good, at least..) help with targeted traffic but mostly SEO and link relevancy, which is often overlooked but very helpful (ie selecting to link to category pages if applicable and linking your similar niche blogs together rather than worry about pr).
