The one I'm using (jw) won't let you jump to another part of the video until the preceeding portion is loaded.. Anyone know of a better one??

That has nothing to do with the player, it has to do with the server setup. Ask your host to install lighttpd and it will work.

          It's a linux server

I suspected that, actually, but have no idea of how to fix it

It's not the player...its the way you're delivering content to the player.

Is there a way to just make it serve videos better without completely changing to a new o/s?? It's shared

You're serving video from a shared server?

Well, no, it's a shared hosting plan
I'm not over here leasing half of a box and serving video
Well it's sort of the same but it's shared hosting

You need to set up lighttpd, nginx or apache with mod_flv_streaming and mod_h264_streaming (if you're going to use mp4s).

Oh and why are you serving videos on shared hosting?

OK...try this in your JW Player settings under "Streaming".

Add this "http" in there and see if it streams.

It will auto detect to see if the server has a streaming service for FLV or MP4.

My guess is that your shared server doesn't have anything set up for streaming services.

it's not the player - it's the way you stream video...

Okay.. I tried that and my video disappeared...

It's a linux apache server but apparently I don't have access to configure apache.... (I can't see the conf file or the directory for apache at all) but my host does have a lot of the module things installed (not sure which one.. but the mod_flv module would apparently be helpful?)

Is there something I can do to .htaccess or some kind of a thing??
