    aMember?

Last time I looked at this years ago it didn't look that great.

I am just looking at a newer version and it appears a better....

Anyone have any experience with it?

Haven't used it in years, it will only work for one website. Also it seems it dropped affiliate tracking info pretty frequently.
    - As soon as I think up a good sig it's going here.

If you want a paysite and only have like 50 bucks or so it will help you make enough money to get something worth while. I don't know who would be your biller if your budget is that tight these days though.

It was a step in my ladder but its a long way down from where I am now.

            Its not for a 'paysite'.

Just a WP mainstream project that I want to charge a small amount via PayPal to access the premium download area.

            NATS would be overkill....

Its not $50 any more - $180 now.

Not a paysite, just a site that you pay for. ok...

I cant remember how much I paid for it way back when. Maybe it was 180.

Seems like there must be a cheaper way of charging for downloads though.

I was trying to download a clipboard manager I had seen somewhere and saw the way their gateway worked, I think it was typeitin or something.

I went to download it and there were options to pay 20 bucks or else fill out some high paying offer (like netflix and the like) to download. I don't know what they were using but it seemed cool. Not for the surfer (I said fuck it and ended up getting free-ware) but for whoever owns that shit.

I used it in 2009. I had free members and premium members. I remember it took forever to pass the free member information to the join form to upgrade so had to nix the passing of information.

Sounds interesting - but was hoping for a basic affiliate system - Like the one in aMember - Nothing serious, just a refer a friend type thing for members...

It has an interesting mix of features. It seems unsure of what it IS. You mentioned an affiliate system - amember has some affiliate system features, but that's not really what it is, so it's not particularly good in that role.

Most of the other things it does can be done far more simply by just using a setting somewhere else. A typical conversation -

WM - Can aMember be used with Strongbox?
                        Me - Yes. Why?
WM - I want to use multiple processors.
Me - Why not just set Strongbox to check both processors? That takes about 30 seconds to configure.

If you want a simple affilate system, there are many simple affiliate systems, several of them free.
